the money shot
Hello hump day! A few weeks ago, I received a phone call out of the blue from the U.S. Department of State. As I heard the identification of the caller, my first thought was oh man, what did I do? On second thought, shoot, what did my kid do? My heart stopped pounding and the unknown quickly became clear. . .
Oh, whew, you want one of my photos to publish in an upcoming edition of one of your journals and you want to give me cold hard cash, too? You got it! The U.S. Dept. of State’s International Information Programs publishes 5 genres of interest, worldwide in five different arenas. The March 2006 issue aptly titled, Media Emerging happened to be in need of bloggers, blog fodder, and no doubt, photos to express the depth and the breadth of the blogging community.
I was a little leery, but giddy as hell (read: bouncing off the walls) when the Photo Researcher first contacted me… I mean, my name isn’t openly on the site, (it’s noted, but not outwardly obvious), and they tracked me down at my home telephone number… I’ve been on the ‘net for a long time (read: well over a decade), have had this info public and never felt so ummm, weird about strange phone calls. I guess it was because it was Los Federales. Anyhow, it’s all good and not only do I get a great-selling shot of my baby, but also by way of default of the screenshot, my hunny makes it into the publication, as well.
I promised you a while back that I would share as soon as I could, so here it is! (and whaddya know–bloggin does pay!)

Last, but not least, if you happen to pick up, read, or otherwise end up with one of the 50,000 print publication versions (the actual magazine, hard copy, etc.)…

And finally, if sifting through those links is too, too much for you: here’s a link directly to the online page, go directly to The Money Shot: Kid Splash.
In other photo news: recent publications (for fun and little profit) include:
Star Bulletin’s “Spread Aloha” (Last picture on the page w/ kids (3 of 5 are junior bloggers) in tree: the lil tude, Kamalani, and Missy.
Honolulu Advertiser: here and here.
And one of DB’s money shots (he has a few!) got selected by another photographer for being oh-so-very-sexy…

Wowee and Woohoo! Damn woman, is there anything you can’t do?
